Many thanks to all at Clifford School for inviting us to their summer fair; extra thanks for feeding us lots of burgers and bottles of wine. It was great to see the music we play getting children, parents, and the head teacher up to dance!
Pictures courtesy of Steve Tozer-Loft are available here. (I think Dave will be particularly pleased of the one of him …)
We’re playing at the Ivory, Regent’s Terrace, Sheffield, on Tuesday 17 June. Everyone’s invited. We’ll be on from about 6.30pm to 9.30pm, and the Ivory offers fantastic locally sourced food if you need feeding while you listen. See the Ivory’s page for contact details.
‘Nature boy’. I think this song shows off what Jellybean is about better than any other - lots of vocal harmonies, a sultry and slinky beat, topped off by an electric sax solo. Enjoy!
Always nice to know you’re appreciated … what follows is the text of a letter sent by Ed Pennington of Fulwood Church, following Jellybean’s gig in January 2008
‘Thank you so much for coming to play on Saturday. We were thrilled with how well the event went, and have had nothing but positive feedback from people who were there. I thought your sets were perfect for the evening, allowing people to listen to great music, whilst at the same time enjoying conversations. If it’s helpful, I’d be happy to give a recommendation to anyone who is considering booking you in the future.’
I’ve just prepared for a client a complete list of songs that Jellybean perform, so I thought I’d post it up here while I was about it. It includes either the composer or a noteworthy performer to jog your memory as to how each song goes.
Jellybean are a five piece jazz band, featuring two singers, a pianist, saxophonist, and drummer. We play a lively mix of jazz-inspired music: from Nina Simone to classic songs by the likes of Gerschwin, Hammerstein, and Cole Porter, and taking in the ‘hard-bop’ of John Coltrane and Miles Davis. We love to play music that you can dance to - the girl from ipanema, simone’s ‘got my arms, got my legs’, our very upbeat ‘fly me to the moon’. We are intent on doing the tunes our way - though they are classics, they should never be cheesy - but above all else we want our audience to have fun.
We are available to play at your event for a reasonable price. We have previously been hired for birthdays, weddings, by a church and a university, and on behalf of bars and pubs. We provide all our own equipment and are at home playing outside as well as in. If you’re interested, drop us a line: jellybean@sesamesheffield.co.uk, or phone 07948 403155.
